Three major DC developers are competing as finalists to develop a hot 2.2 acre site on Howard University’s Shaw campus. JBG Smith, PN Hoffman and MRP are the 3 developers in hot contention to do this project. Over 20 firms put out proposals in response to Howard University.

The project involves the redevelopment of two major Howard-owned properties – the Bond Bread Factory and Washington Railway & Electric Co. buildings on Georgia Avenue NW. The buildings are long-vacant and across from Howard University Hospital and the Atlantic Plumbing Shaw project (by JBG Smith).

Howard University has wanted to redevelop these sites for over a decade. An ongoing legal dispute with a prior development partner was recently resolved, allowing them to move forward with plans for the sites.

The project will include office, residential, shopping and dining.
