A brewpub and apartment development project at St. Michael’s Roman Catholic Church in Patterson Park in Baltimore is underway. The Church was closed in 2011 and purchased in 2017 for $1.7 million by a local team. The developer for the project is SAA/EVI Development.
St. Michael’s is a 130 year old, 70,000 sq. ft. granite church complex with a distinctive street presence on E. Lombard Street and a spot on the National Register of Historic Places. The historic status qualified the property for a $2.86 million tax credit for redevelopment back in 2015.
The Ministry of Brewing will be incorporating elements of the church in its design. The church has been de-sanctified already and will serving craft beer and running a beer laboratory in the former sanctuary. He added that the design of the brew pub will incorporate some of the splendor of the former church.
The project includes 37 apartments that are being built within former school space on the property. Rents will be as expected for an Upper Fells Point address.
The same group has also successfully developed the 103 unit Nelson Kohl apartments, recently opened in Station North.
