Here’s a cool concept currently seeking crowdfunding on Kickstarter. The Hibernaculum Winery Build project is trying to raise $20,000 to build a self-contained, solar powered winery that will be housed in a 20′ shipping container. They’re using low intervention wine practices to “brew” and ferment wine without using modern industrial methods that rely on sulfites.
The winery will function completely off the grid and will use repurposed and reclaimed materials and equipment. Raised funds go to the cost of construction and acquiring the equipment, including the solar panels and storage batteries.
The project would be constructed outdoors on Route 1 in Hyattsville in a formerly blighted strip that is now a major street art gallery. After completion, the winery will be loaded onto a truck and moved to its permanent home at Distillery Lane Ciderworks in Frederick County.
They’re on Kickstarter through July 14 and have raised just under $9,000 as of 7/3/2018. They need a 4th of July boost and momentum going into their final crowdfunding weeks.
