Sorry, New York! There won’t be anything falling through on the DC area side of Amazon HQ2 expansion. Amazon has signed additional leases at the National Landing project in Crystal City, starting with 47,512 sq. ft. for a total of 585,000 sq. ft. by the retail giant in Arlington. Employees begin to move in a few months.
Three leases were signed earlier in the month for the other 537,000 sq. ft., with two of the 3 spaces getting occupation in 2019. The third lease is for 258,000 sq. ft. and will get employees onsite at the end of 2020. In other news on numbers, Amazon may be increasing the jobs created at National Landing from 25,000 to over 37,000 total if an incentive agreement with Arlington County is explored to its fullest.
In addition to this round of leasing, Amazon also has agreements in place to buy development sites in Pentagon City from National Landing developer JBG Smith. This makes up an additional 4,000,000 sq. ft. of new office buildings and space.
