A well-known 7-11 in a prime spot on a Takoma METRO street corner is up for redevelopment into condos. Local DC developer purchased the site at 218 Cedar Street NW in March and has plans submitted for the project.
The project is unnamed as of yet and will include 37 condo units on top of between 9,000 – 12,000 sq. ft. of retail and commercial. Plans call for mainly 1 bedroom units with a small allocation of 2 bedroom and an additional allocation for inclusionary zoning affordable unit. The designer on the project is Square 134 Architects.
Community members are overall amenable to the project and have requested a grab-and-go market with healthy food offerings in the retail portion of the site. They’ve also requested adjustments to the design for the building’s look to step down more as it nears historic single family homes on Cedar Street, NW.
If things go smoothly, this project will have permits in place in 2019 and will break ground in February of 2020.
